Overview
With shrinking geometries and increasing functional complexities, power management has become a critical component of product design. Various forms of multi-voltage control techniques are used to manage power. Verification complexity and accuracy have become issues for power managed designs. A multi-voltage design requires verification of the functionality in all of the power states as well as verification of power transitions and sequences. Additionally, concurrently changing voltages require increased verification. Traditional verification methodologies which treat voltages as 0s or 1s are insufficient to verify power management design bugs.
Verification Solutions
Synopsys now delivers a complete and advanced low-power management verification solution in the industry. Synopsys has developed MVSIM, a Voltage-Aware simulation engine and MVRC, a Voltage-Aware static checker that offer comprehensive coverage for all power management functions, The Voltage-Aware nature of MVSIM and MVRC provide the needed accuracy and verification coverage for power-managed designs. Since their deployment, MVSIM and MVRC have found many high-value design bugs that were missed by other tools. VCS and MVSIM communicate through a VPI. MVSIM co-simulates with VCS. VCS performs functional simulation of the logic elements and MVSIM simulates the power-management functions within a design. The result is a completely verified power-managed design.
